Construction

Two ruffles on one open side — one ~1 in / 2.5 cm, one ~6 in / 15 cm. Envelope closure on the back. The listed pillow size does not include the ruffles.

On the bed

This is the deepest edge we sew: a narrow ruffle riding on a deep one, both on the same open side. Two gathers instead of one give the edge a line of its own, so it holds its shape where a single ruffle can fall flat.

It is a front-of-bed piece — the case for the pillow that faces the room, usually with plainer ones stacked behind it. The listed size is the pillow: the 1 in / 2.5 cm and 6 in / 15 cm ruffles are both additional to it. In white the two gathers read as separate edges rather than as one mass. The fabric

100% linen at 170 GSM, European, medium weight. Soft against skin after the first wash and softer with every subsequent one.

Care

Wash before first use — cold water, delicate cycle. The pillowcase is cut 3–5% oversized to absorb the natural shrinkage of linen; it settles to nominal size after 1–2 cold washes. For ongoing care, machine wash at 40 °C (104 °F) on a delicate cycle. Tumble dry low. Oxygen bleach is safe for white linen; do not use chlorine bleach. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified — the fabric and thread are tested for substances that affect skin and lungs. The flax is European; every piece is cut and sewn in our own workshop near Riga, Latvia — not subcontracted, not relabelled from elsewhere.

Should I wash this before first use?
Yes. New linen should always be washed before first use — cold water, delicate cycle. The pillowcase ships oversized and settles to nominal size after 1–2 cold washes.

Does linen shrink?
Yes — natural fibers shrink. Expect 3–5%. This pillowcase is cut oversized to absorb that, so the final fit matches the size you ordered.

Does white linen yellow over time?
Not with normal care. White linen yellows when stored damp or when bleached with chlorine. Wash, dry fully, store dry. Oxygen bleach is safe for occasional brightening.
